NHS Ballot Opens Tomorrow – 28 August 2014

DAVE PRENTIS vote yes

DAVE PRENTIS

Dear colleague,
Your NHS pay ballot paper will soon be arriving at your home. As your general secretary, I know it isn’t easy to vote to take industrial action, but in this case I believe the only way to make the Secretary of State listen is to use your vote and say yes to strike action and action short of strike.

For months, members have been telling me how angry they are about the decision not to award the increase recommended by the independent Pay Review Body. Many of you have taken part in protests and other campaign activities. But still the Secretary of State refuses to reconsider his decision.

We need to make him understand what four years of a pay freeze has done to your standard of living and how it is affecting your careers and the care patients receive.

UNISON is asking for immediate payment of the 1% consolidated sum to everyone as recommended by the Pay Review Body and payment of the Living Wage of £7.65 per hour for staff on the lowest pay point.  Plus an above inflation pay rise for 2015/6 and a commitment to future pay rises that will restore the value of NHS pay.

Have your say in this ballot. UNISON is encouraging you to vote YES but the most important thing is to use your vote.  We want to send a strong message to the secretary of state to make him think again and give you and other NHS staff the pay rises you deserve.

If you have not received your ballot paper by the 3 September you can request one online or by calling UNISONdirect on 0800 0 857 857. The ballot line closes at 12.00 noon on 15 September and this will be the last opportunity to request a ballot paper.

Best wishes

Dave Prentis
General Secretary
