Sara Forster Chairman, BAOT

SARA FORESTER

Dear BAOT member
As a member of BAOT, you are also a member of UNISON and entitled to vote in the forthcoming ballot of members working in the NHS in England, over this year’s pay offer.

As BAOT Chairman, I am writing to you on behalf of BAOT Council to urge you to vote in the ballot. Your NHS pay ballot paper will soon be arriving at your home address and it is important that you make your views known.

The ballot will be to vote for strike action and action short of strike, over the Autumn and Winter. Both BAOT and UNISON recognise that it is not easy to vote for industrial action in the NHS.  We are encouraging members to vote Yes in the ballot.  However we recognise that it is your decision, and above all we are asking you to use your vote to make your views known.

BAOT and UNISON members have been actively expressing their anger and frustration at the Government’s decision not to award the 1% pay increase recommended by the independent NHS Pay Review Body for 2014.  Many of you have taken part in protests and other campaign activities, but still the Government refuses to reconsider its decision.

We are asking for immediate payment of the 1% wage increase consolidated into your salary, as recommended by the Pay Review Body and payment of the Living Wage of £7.65 per hour for staff on the lowest pay point.  We are also calling for an above inflation pay rise for 2015/16 and a commitment to future pay rises that will restore the value of NHS pay.

Please use your vote, so that we can send a strong message to make the Government reconsider its decision.

If you have not received your ballot paper by 3 September you can request one online or by calling UNISONdirect on 0800 0 857 857.  The ballot line closes at 12.00 noon on 15 September and this will be the last opportunity to request a ballot paper.
