Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members

A few weeks ago I was emailed by a member to say we should try and let our members know more about all the work we do in the Trust. So we thought we would try by doing a monthly blog. So here is my first attempt!

This week you should have all received our AGM details and a newsletter which gives a quick run down of some of the things we have been involved in this year. Please try and come along to our AGMs to find out more information and speak to us about how we can improve our communication.

In January we have some UNISON staff starting work with the branch for 6 months so you will see more of us and we will be able to concentrate on getting out and about the Pennine Care footprint and supporting you.

This month, as always, has been busy. I’m not sure if you are aware, but Staff side now have a seat on Trust board. It is an observer role but we are asked to speak on matters around staff. This week I attended and the Trust approved its business case for single sex accommodation, our reps will be out and about from mid Jan so if you have any issues around this piece of work please do contact us.

UNISON are very involved in the just culture work that is happening in the trust and we are in the middle of re looking at the HR policies to make them better for everyone to use, we are working with the trust to reduce suspensions and then make investigations much quicker. We will also look at the dignity at work and grievance policy to make it much more straight forward and quicker for staff. How many of you have heard of just culture or seen any changes from it? There will be a big event around March so try and come along, we need to change the culture within the trust and we need our members to know about it so you can let us know when it’s not happening. You are our ears and eyes across the trust.

UNISON Pennine Care are working with UNISON nationally on the #raceforequality campaign  https://www.unison.org.uk/health-news/2019/10/race-equality-campaign-launch/ challenging racism in the NHS. We want to hear from our black members around how we can work with Pennine care to challenge Racism in the NHS and make your work place a safe environment for you.

Plus all our normal answering questions, queries and supporting Members in sickness meetings, investigations and disciplinaries.
