March Blog

Hello everyone, when I first started writing this blog I never imagined that we would be in the middle of a pandemic which has changed the way we live and work. This week I should have been in Brighton representing the North West at UNISON Health conference, but of course this and our national conference in June has been cancelled. We are all learning to work in different ways which has been challenging for us all.

March was a busy month for us as we held our AGMs around the Trust. Our first two were a success but the third one was the same week as Covid 19 ramped up so not many members were able to attend, but the good news is we were quorate and we passed an emergency motion around our band 2 campaign which we are still working hard on even in the current circumstances.

I was down in London to chair what I thought was my last national Occupational Therapy stewards forum, but if we can’t hold our next meeting in June and elect a new chair I have agreed to stay on until we can.

Our partnership committee was mainly around COVID19 and we were very much in the planning stage, this month we are going to try and hold this meeting remotely!

We have changed the way HR process are run while we are in this current situation, remember though it applies only if the members agree with the change. Always contact your rep when going through a HR process as all reps are upto date with the new guidance. This is only for the next few months and we are constantly keeping our eye on how it’s working and what we need to change.

UNISON has been out to a lot of the wards with some sweet treats and some shower products so staff can have a shower before they leave the wards. We still have a few left so drop me a line and I can arrange to drop them off for you.

Lots of calls are coming through daily; the main themes are working from home, self isolation and PPE. Everything seems to change daily at the moment, we are keeping our website and facebook page up to date as much as we can. The most up to date information about PPE is on our website. I know this is a hard time for everyone no matter where you are work, all our members have been amazing. All our reps are working at home or on the wards or in the community so any issue please do get in touch.
