Are your shifts adequately staffed?

Take part in our nursing survey on 6th March

UNISON has been hearing from more and more nurses with concerns about nurse-to-patient ratios and the effect on patient safety. With Health Conference coming up and the media frenzy surrounding the Mid Staffordshire public inquiry still going, we think it’s a good time to check what nurse-to-patient ratios really are.

Are you working on 6 March?

From midnight to midnight on 6 March 2012 we’re asking you to make some notes on how your shift was staffed. Use the worksheet available here: http://www.unison.org.uk/healthcare/nursing/pages_view.asp?did=14062 to find out what you need to fill in. Just print it off and bring it work on the 6th. After your shift that day, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/nursingratios and enter the notes you took. This web survey will close on Friday 16 March, so make sure you get your data entered before the close date.

This has never been done before. No one has ever conducted a one-day check-in across the service to find out how units are being staffed. And we need a big member involvement. Make sure you’re a part of this historic campaign!

The results of the survey will be released at Health Conference at the end of April, and will feature prominently at the Nursing Conference in October. Check out the UNISON Nursing webpage for updates and more details! http://www.unison.org.uk/healthcare/nursing.
